I *loved* Eccleston. I still miss him, too. I really like Matt Smith, especially in season 5. He does the whole “I look really young but I’m really really old” bit quite well. And he brings whimsy :-D Tennant was OK, but too emo for me.

Heh, I’m glad I’m not the only one.  I think after I catch up, I’m going to go back and watch Series 1 again, to relive the Eccleston days.  And Matt Smith…combined with Amy, it’s just too much whimsy and silliness for me.  Tennant’s Doctor was indeed emo, but imo was generally (if not always) really good about justifying his emo with the existential weight of being a Time Lord.

Eccleston was also generally more whimsical/silly than Tennant (his mischievous grin was priceless), but I felt like it was more connected to the flipside of things, whereas Smith just seems to ignore that whole bit.

Ha, that was four words.  Or, three words and an utterance.  Tennant was great.  He was really great.  I have a big spot in my heart for Tennant.  He was brilliant, and I greatly enjoyed all of the time.  I’m just a little bitter, because Eccleston really was fantastic, and I miss him.

My first real anonymous ask!  Oh my, so exciting.  Umm.  Matt Smith…I’m only six episodes into the fifth season, so I don’t have too much a reference.  But Smith himself…I find him annoying.  Too cavalier.  He’s over the line of being dismissive and manic that Tennant toed well.  He hasn’t really dealt with the pathos of being a Timelord at all so far, it’s all skipping through time, matchmaking, flipping his little screwdriver around, saying cute funny British things.

And really, I’m still pissed that Eccleston only got one season, because he was awesome.  Tennant was okay, and damn did he go out with an emotional, fantastic, wonderfully-acted bang (or, really, an unmatchable whimper), but I’ll always have a special spot for Eccleston.

That said, my biggest issue with this season is Amy.  She’s dumb, she asks all the most obvious questions that you’re supposed to have already figured out, and she is congratulated and just so proud of herself when she accidentally trips over the solution to a problem.  Rory, however, I met last episode, and I love that kid.  He’s everything that Amy and Matt aren’t, and I’m really excited to see what he does to the dynamics of things.

All that said, I am dressing up as Smith for halloween, mostly because I keep being told I look like him.  So I don’t hate him too much :P
